Celebrate Shelton's "Best of Connecticut" 2011

Connecticut Magazine has released its annual “Best of Connecticut” issue and many local businesses in Shelton were named to the list.

To celebrate the great accomplishes of these local favorites, Jones Family Farms & Winery will be hosting their second Best of Connecticut weekend. The event will take place on Saturday, September 24th and Sunday, September 25th from 1pm – 5pm in the Jones Winery courtyard at 606 Walnut Tree Hill Road in Shelton.

Jones Winery (Best Connecticut Wine), Liquid Lunch (Best Connecticut Soup), Oronoque Farms (Best Connecticut Apple Pie), Pasta Fina (Best Connecticut Fresh Pasta) and Stockbridge’s Cheesecake (Best Connecticut Cheesecake) will be showcasing their winning products. Guests will be able to sample and purchase the items that have made these businesses ‘the best’.

Other activities will include a vegetable market set up by Stone Gardens of Shelton and cooking demonstrations (featuring Pasta Fina pasta) from the Harvest Kitchen Cooking Studio. Jones winemaker Larry McCulloch will host talks in the Jones Homestead Vineyard (2pm on both days). Also, a Farm Heritage Hike will be offered at 1pm (Saturday only) that will take guests on a lovely walk through the history and beauty of Jones Family Farms’ fields.

The farm will also be open for early pumpkin picking (including hayrides and corn maze – weather permitting) at their Pumpkinseed Hill farm (120 Beardsley Road, Shelton) from 10 – 5:30 on both days. The Jones Winery Tasting Room will also remain open its normal weekend hours from 11-5 for tastings and wine-by-the-glass on the patio.
