Scouting is a great opportunity for children! However, our farmers and farm managers are often too immersed in the growing and selling of our crops to lead individual scout programs.
We occasionally offer farm hikes that are geared for families with young children. Scouts and their families are welcome to register for these hikes. Please note that other farm hikes, due to the the length of the hike and the level of information, are for adults and children 12 years and older. Please visit our Farm Events to see if there are any farm hikes in the upcoming months.
During the pumpkin season, we usually create a handout for scout leaders to do a self-guided walk through the farmyard looking at the variety of pumpkins and squashes. Please visit our Pumpkin FAQs for more information about visiting with groups at pumpkin season.
During our strawberry season, due to staffing and the fragility of the fruit, we ask that you please do not bring school or camp groups strawberry picking. We will have to ask them to wait outside the field while adult volunteers pick for the group. Strawberry picking is a perfect project for an adult and a child to learn together about the fruit, however it is old-fashioned farm work and does not work well as an “outing” for groups of kids.
If you are interested in a scout program (or birthday party program), we recommend you contact the Webb Mountain Discovery Zone in Monroe. They have a beautiful trail system and coordinate with CT Audubon staff to offer a variety of girl scout and boy scout badge programs.
The farm thanks all scout leaders for all their efforts in educating children about the environment and other important issues!
